When Yamini Naidu’s email arrived, asking to have her website updated and revamped in preparation for her new book ‘Power Play’, I got excited! So why was I so thrilled?
Not only is Yamini a best-selling author, keynote speaker and the world’s only economist turned business Storyteller but also that Storytelling is fundamental to much of the branding and communications I do for my clients.
More importantly I had the great privilege of benefitting from Yamini’s knowledge. I took part in a Talk on Purpose program run by the awesome people at the Slow School of Business and Yamini was one of the facilitators. Working closely with Yamini and the other facilitators was a insightful experience, helping all of us gain clarity and dig deep to find our unique “why”, and then engage and connect with our audience while remaining authentic and truthfully conveying our message.

Check out Yamini’s new website, and while you’re there why not download the first chapter.
One hundred years ago, our average attention span was 20 minutes. These days, it’s down to just nine seconds, according to Sally Hogshead, author of the book Fascinate: Your Seven Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation. As I’ve heard Yamini say “We have become lean mean scanning machines”.
This is why every website needs to follow the 3 “C’s”
In a world of ever shortening attention spans, it’s important that your website engages and stands out, inviting visitors to stop, pause and find out more. User experience also needs to be intuitive so visitors can find what they need quickly and easily.
Communication is the basis of everything, websites that speak and resonate with visitors are the most effective way to share your values and purpose, letting your target audience know who you are, what you stand for and what you can do.
By listening to your audience and understanding what they value you can convert interest into genuine leads. Attracting people who believe in you and what you do to benefit them is the final step to creating a website that works for you.
Show not Tell
. . . has become the new way of communicating. Consumers experience a brand through actions, imagery, sensations, feelings and emotions. We don’t really need to spell things out or bore our audience with reams of copy and data – great use of imagery, your actions and particularly storytelling are all powerful tools to communicate your unique message to the world. Inspiring images or profile photos in a non staged setting that capture the essence of who you are, breathes life and personality into your brand. Thanks to Beth Jennings Photography it was truly a pleasure working with your imagery. The warm tones deliberately captured and complemented Yamini’s brand even more.
It was one of those typical crazy rainy Melbourne evenings, soon after Yamini’s new site went live, that we found sanctuary in a tiny cosy little CBD bookstore and attended the Book Launch of Power Play.
The event was warm and wonderful, and Yamini’s book is a must-read! It describes the new level all business owners, leaders and influencers need to play. New angles such as Story Power, Context Power, Empathy Power and Message Power . . . and my favourite Fierce Power which is about being authentically ‘you’ and demonstrating your values through your words, behaviours and images for that matter that all help you to become a Master of your Message.
